The great blue heron is an icon of American wetlands. They are striking birds; their huge wingspans and deep squawks make their evolutionary link to dinosaurs intuitive. They have adapted well to human development, but wetlands continue to be threatened by land reclamation, pollution, and development such as dams and canals. Even after DDT demolished a generation of water birds before it was banned for agricultural use in 1973, their population is strong from coast to coast.

You can help to protect these graceful animals by advocating for strong regulation of agricultural chemicals and industrial waste disposal and conservation of important wetland habitat. This design depicts a heron in a colorful marsh at sunset, and encourages people to "Watch Wildlife."
